Who we are

We are a nonprofit animal rescue registered with the IRS since 2003 composed of loving and caring volunteers whose primary focus is to assist deserving Keeshonden who are in need of loving “forever” families and homes. We do our best to match the right dog with the right family based on both the needs of the dog and the adopting family. We do this without compensation.  We do this for the love of the breed.  We rely solely on public donations to perform our mission.  All donations, gifts, and bequests made to Florida Keeshond Rescue are tax deductible to the extent of the law.

We invite you to check us out

A copy of the official registration and financial information may be obtained from the Division of Consumer Services by calling toll-free  (800-435-7352) within the State of Florida.  Registration does not imply endorsement, approval, or recommendation by the State.  Our ID is CH22285.

Where we get our Keeshonden and what you can expect

Some come to us directly from families who, for whatever reason, feel they can no longer keep a dog.  We also rescue dogs from shelters that practice euthanasia and we take in dogs found wondering and homeless.  Where there is a Keeshond in need for whatever the reason, we do our best to take the dog into foster care in the hopes of finding just the right family and home for him/her.   Most dogs we place are fine, healthy, well adjusted and beautiful but some are more needy than others. Some have extraordinary medical needs such as needing treatment for heartworms or other life threatening medical problems while others have cosmetic problems due to improper diet or lack of grooming and require special care and attention to restore them to their best condition. Some have learning or socialization issues due to lack of proper training. Whatever the need, we do our best to ensure the dog’s health and well being.  All dogs we place are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up to date on all shots.  All information we have on a dog regarding medical history and temperament is presented to the adopter at the time of the adoption.

The process to adopt

  1. Complete and submit an application:  We will check all references and prefer at least one vet reference. We require a home visit to ensure that the dog will be in a safe and loving environment.
  2. We ask that you meet the dog for the first time in the foster home where the dog is familiar with his/her surroundings and comfortable with the people he/she knows.
  3. Once you have decided to adopt a particular dog, we will prepare a contract for your review.  The contract is easy to understand.  We do not charge an “adoption fee” but we do accept donations to help defray the expenses incurred in association with the care of a dog.  We provide all receipts for all medical expenses we have incurred.

What we expect from you

We expect you to love and properly care for the dog you adopt all the days of his/her life including regular vet check ups, shots, feeding, exercise, grooming and attention.  We are always here for our dogs and our contract clearly states that no dog we place can ever be sold, abandoned, turned in at a shelter or otherwise be disposed of.  If at any time during the life of the dog you feel, for any reason, you can no longer keep or provide for the dog, we expect you to contact us.  We love each and every one of these dogs and never want them to in a situation where they are not loved and cared for the way they should be.

Thank you for opening your heart to a rescue Kees.  Many blessings will surely be yours once you welcome your new furry companion into your heart and home.
